When I was a little girl, my grandfather had a conversation with me about the power of lies. “A lie always begets a lie,” he warned. ”It’s better to tell the truth, no matter how ugly, and suffer the consequences then and there. Or better yet, don’t do things you feel you need to lie about.”
While I am human, I always do my best to tell the truth and have been accused of “telling” on myself more than once. Personally, I hate the nasty feeling that comes with untruths and feel the worst thing another person can do is lie to me. I’d rather be slapped in the face–truly.
Worse, I have a terrible time trusting someone again once they have lied to me, regardless of how sorry they might be. I may forgive, but I will forever feel the need to verify the things they say and do, always knowing they have the capability of betraying me.
Too harsh or right on point? I’d love to know your thoughts.
