On Friday evening, while getting ready for a meticulously-planned night on the town, I picked up my favorite red dress from the dry cleaners and headed home. Two glasses of champagne later, there was mascara on it and being the brilliant and patient young woman I am, I decided it would be wise not only to try and wash the mark off (water on a “dry clean only” dress is not smart) but to throw a little face-wash on the cloth for good measure (um, downright dumb).
Well, who knew that Salicylic Acid was a bleaching agent? Not me, but then again, I wasn’t even wise enough to avoid the whole fiasco altogether.
I slipped into my blue dress (matched my mood at this point) and went out for the evening. I have spent the rest of the weekend trying to figure out a way to save my (brand new) dress. Fortunately, there’s a dirty rumor that a wee bit of rubbing alcohol will “fix” bleach stains as it encourages the dye in surrounding areas to “run” into the faded spot. Well, this info is just too good not to share, and so, here I am sharing it.
I’ll let you know how it goes!

If I were in your shoes, there would be streams of tears involved in that whole endeavor. My face would need to be rewashed, my make-up reapplied, and several pieces of chocolate eaten. It’s a good those little Dove Promises come with cute little messages on the wrapper — kind of like a fortunate cookie, only without the some times confusing and ambiguous messages.
I’m curious to hear how the rubbing alcohol works. It sounds very, very interesting.
