Heartbreaking

Growing up in Northern California, I remember the kidnappings of both Jaycee Dugard and Polly Klass.  There was something so haunting about seeing the faces of missing little girls, both close to my own age, staring back at me from flyers that had been posted by volunteers on telephone poles and in shop windows.  Unfortunately, Polly’s life ended all too violently and all too soon but 18 years after being abducted in front of her stunned stepfather, Jaycee has been found.  While this is a cause for celebration in many ways, two decades of her life have been a living hell.  I truly hope that she and her loved ones are able to find strength, peace and even joy in the years to come.

These kinds of stories are a stark reminder of what is happening in our world and just makes the headlines detailing of what Megan Fox wore to the Transformers premier seem so unimportant.  Maybe that’s why we need those mindless stories, to give us a break from painful realities like this.

What do you think?
